Furniture looks different in a showroom than it does at home. Before you shop, write down the room size, doorway measurements, and any tight turns the delivery crew will need to pass through.
Measure the room
- Room width and length.
- Ceiling height, especially for tall beds, hutches, and bookcases.
- Window, fireplace, outlet, vent, and TV placement.
- Space needed for recliners, drawers, doors, and walking paths.
Measure the path inside
- Front door, storm door, and room doorway width and height.
- Hallway width, stair width, stair turns, landings, and elevator doors.
- Low ceilings, railings, porch posts, tight corners, and light fixtures.
Bring photos: a few phone pictures of the room and doorway path make it easier to compare pieces with a salesperson.
